We finally went somewhere

After a few years of "not much" in the travel arena, we loaded up the car and headed to...Detroit. Actually we headed to Dearborn, MI home of the Henry Ford and Henry Ford Village. First stop, Auburn, Indiana and the Auburn, Cord, Dusenburg Museum.

Housed in Auburn corporate headquarters. It houses a collection of some of the finest classic auts of the 1900's. It isn't limited to just the ACD models, it also included other classics.

The museum also included the original offices and many design sketches from the era of classic design.

Galveston Island and Bolivar Peninsula, A Contrast by the Sea

Galveston is chock full of historical sites:
The Moody Mansion, guided tours only and no pictures inside...

This is what it would look like
if you could take pictures inside the Moody Mansion...

Survivors of Isaac's Storm in Galveston's East End Historical District.

Bishop's Palace on Broadway, see at your own pace
and please feel free to take pictures, inside or out.

Another survivor of the Hurricane of 1900.

Col Bubbies Army/Navy Surplus...going out of business since 1959!
A Landmark of the Strand.

The Strand is the gateway to the western Caribbean cruise ships

And then there is the Bolivar, laid back and low key

The Ferry, free taxi to the Bolivar...

first stop

Fort Travis Park...

... protecting the ports of Galveston and Houston since the 19th century.

Inside the bunker is strictly off limits!

Final stop...
Steve's Landing for
fresh seafood at a fraction of the main island's price...

...and marvelous sunsets at no extra cost!

Come back and see us soon!

And if so inclined you can leave your money here:

Galveston's a nice place to visit!

Signs Along The Road of Life

I like theater signs and marquees! Bigger the better...and these are no exception. We just arrived in St. Louis and were greeted by these theaters. They are located, not in the central business district, but between downtown and Forest Park (more on this later) and they do have some BIG verticle signage...and not to be left out, the 3rd Baptist Church joined in on the action.

The Foxneon is joined by the neon of Big Brothers and Big Sisters

The Powell is across the street from the Fox.

Third Baptist is next to the Powell and lights up, too!
